Please see the transition work to be completed in the summer between GCSE and the beginning of Year 12.
The Art Department’s ethos is creativity for all, we believe that all students should experience creativity and the benefits of creative thinking. This creative thinking can be applied to all areas of life and across all of your studies to transcend thoughts and ideas.
We aim to inspire and challenge students, equipping them with the skills to experiment confidently with materials, developing independence and their own opinions and thoughts. Students use a wide variety of media and skills including: drawing, painting, printmaking, textile, ceramics, sculpture, photography, digital technology and 3D sculpture. The Art Department runs a wide variety of visits; these include trips to The British Museum, Saatchi Gallery and Tate as well as Paris. We also host activities such as life drawing in school.
If you wish to study A-level Art the minimum grade is a 6 at GCSE.

‘A-Level Art was an amazing experience that allowed me to develop my skills both technically and creatively, while in a deeply supportive environment. I plan to study Psychology at University next year.’
Year 13 Student
‘At A-levels I studied Art, French and Sociology. What I enjoyed most about studying Art at A-level was having the freedom to decide the direction in which I wanted to take my Art and the topics I wanted to investigate. I really enjoyed developing the ability to experiment with materials and techniques I had never used before such as cyanotype printing. I am planning to study an art foundation next year and then go to University to study History of Art.’
Year 13 Student
‘For my A-levels I take Art, Film Studies and Sociology. I found my A-level Art experience enjoyable as I experimented using new mediums and techniques I didn’t try at GCSE such as oil painting which is now my favourite medium. I am planning to study an Art foundation next year.’

‘Although sixth form was a challenging time, Art A-level eased the experience and has created long lasting positive memories. I plan to study Law at University next year.’
Year 13 Student
‘A-level art is my favourite subject. It was a stress reliever from my other subjects and a way I can spend my time doing something I like while also accomplishing my A- level. I am planning to study medicine at University.’
